TEHRAN The third and fourth rounds of Asian Men's Chess Championships ended in Calcutta, India, on August 11 during which Ehsan Qaem-Maqami and Morteza Mahjoub shone.

In the third round, the clash of Iranian chess player Qaem-Maqami with the grand master of India ended in stalemate and in the fourth round Qaem-Maqami checkmated the international chess master of Bangladesh, IRNA reported.

Mahjoub, another Iranian contestant, beat the international master of Kazakhstan and shared the point in the fourth round with a Chinese chess player.

Elshan Moradi lost to two Indian masters in the third and fourth rounds while his teammate Arash Roghani was defeated by an Uzbek participant and reached a stalemate in a fourth-round clash against a chess player from India.

Mohsen Qorbani of Iran, who had lost to a Kyrgyz player in the third round managed to overcome the representative of the Philippines.

Qaem-Maqami with 3.5 points and Mahjoub with 3 points are at the top of table.

A number of 70 chess players from 18 countries have participated in the third Asian Men's Chess Championships during which 10 top players will be selected for competing in the world competitions.
